Questions we discussed
Q1 How did you become a digital marketer? Please share your career story!
I have been around in “SEO” since 1994, started in local in Flagstaff AZ, It was an accident, I had a computer networking and repair company that grew fast, then I built a website for processing credit reports “online”. That grew fast and word spread.
Then I moved on to enterprise working with hosting companies like GoDaddy and HostGator in the early 2000’s, then got back into Local in 2010. In 2016 I became a GMB (GBP) Product Expert. The rest is history. My full story is here
The nice thing is I have seen the history of Internet marketing from the early days.
Q2 What is Google My Business and which types of businesses is it best for?
Google Business Profiles (Formerly GMB) is meant for any business that does face-to-face business either at a customer’s location or in person at a storefront.
The Google Business Profile is meant to inform the consumer with as much information as possible so they can make a decision on if they want to contact the business.
GBP for a business is a fantastic way of bringing in new local customers, our clients see 90% of revenue from GBP.
It is amazing how many local business profiles are still not claimed! I always like “what are there people thinking”? #vcbuzz

The missed opportunity in local is real
Q3 How to use Google My Business to generate leads?
GPB can be used in many ways to generate leads. Your basic information is present, phone, address, served areas, directions, website links, and business hours.
On top of that we have Q&A (think FAQs), Posts (which can drive conversions), reviews (major ranking and conversion factor), services, booking features, request a quote features, and product posts.
Which of those features are the most effective in bringing leads (well, apart from reviews, I suppose) #vcbuzz

I personally love get a quote or messaging
Q4 How can an agency scale by offering Google My Business services?
I am asked all the time by agencies how they can grow and scale, this is a very common problem. It used to be that being an “expert” at all things was the way to grow an agency. These days it pays to be a specialist.
Adding services like GBP management or spam-fighting can be low-hanging fruit when it comes to new client acquisition. Doing do so without people in-house executing while making a profit makes scalability a possibility
Add white labeled services from a trusted vendor to extend your capabilities without having to invest in more staff or the time in figuring out the processes.
A4 Unless your local business is getting tens reviews an hour, managing your GMB page is pretty doable #vcbuzz
