Questions we discussed
Q1 How did you become a digital marketer? Please share your career story!
My journey was not a straight-forward one but it started with a web design franchise back in 2001.
However, after creating my very first blog many years ago I realised that I needed traffic so my focused turned to dabbling with Google Ads and some SEO for a few years.
After during numerous courses over the years in social media, Pinterest, SEO and other digital marketing strategies I became sick and tired of the 9-5 and became consistent and started to experience success over the last 6 years. To be fair, I did so many that it is difficult to say one is better than the other. If you can tell me more specifically what results you need I can better recommend 2-3 of them
Because I am a problem solver by nature I then focused on project management and systems as it relates to digital marketing so here we are today.
Q2 What is content repurposing?
To explain it in layman terms it is simply taking that great piece of content that you create every week or month and turning it into several pieces of content that your audience would enjoy.
A-2 #vcbuzz Turning my podcast into a LIVE streaming video increased my FB page engagement like 2000% now that I’m bravely repurposing in that scary way?! Lol But surprising results, right? ?
— Sue-Ann Bubacz (@SueAnnBubacz) September 1, 2020
For example, you can take a blog post, video or podcast episode or turn it into a short video, IG Story, ebook, cheat sheet, workbook, social posts, presentation, meme or even a GIF.
There’s a handy meme generator for your repurposing efforts that can help:
A2 Using a piece of content to fit another platform such as social media, podcasts, email, search engines #vcbuzz
— Alison Wolf | Freelance Writer | Digital Marketing (@freelancerboss) September 1, 2020
If you are like me, you probably spend time creating really great content and then you will promote it for a few days. However, with content repurposing, you can reach several audiences across many platforms for over 365 days.
A2b There are good reasons for repurposing content. Julie @NewHorizons123 laid out what they are in Why Repurpose Your Content for Maximum Effectiveness for @Vocal_Creators https://t.co/l2P23vHEBH #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
It really helps you to put your marketing on steroids and reach a wider audience.
A2. Using existing content that may within your IP, to then break it down or build it up for various platforms and gain traction through different audiences.#vcbuzz
— Kedar Rao (@KeedaKaRao) September 1, 2020
I’ve focused more on content repurposing the past few years. Tweeting key takeaways from an article, creating graphics to illustrate main points (shared separately), shooting a short video on main takeaways of a long-form article, creating content series… #VCBuzz

A2. 4 ways to improve existing content:
— Jeannie Hill (@essentialskill) September 1, 2020
1. Conver solutions and answers more in-depth
2. Add/update images/videos/rich media
3. Add helpful up-to-date semantic content
4. Think more strategically about audience needs#vcbuzz Thanks, @DonSturgill for the RT. https://t.co/ND1kEo3x6n
Q3 How to do content repurposing right? (please do describe your innovative service too!)
This is where it gets a bit tricky because the only way to really do this right is by developing a systematic way to get this done without suffering from overwhelm. Also, don’t overthink it either. Lol!!
#vcbuzz I feel this… so much content, so little time! Feels like repurposing content gives you endless options, really… ??
— Sue-Ann Bubacz (@SueAnnBubacz) September 1, 2020
With my clients, I take the blog post that you wrote and paste it into a blank document and then create a table with 4-5 columns just below that document.
In column one -> platform, column 2 -> caption or message taken from blog post, column 3 -> image, column 4 -> objective
A3a My favorite way to do content repurposing right is to add more media and upgrade it regularly.
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
For example, this week I rewrote a post that wasn’t that relevant today to speak to what people go through.
Changed the title, added a highly relevant infographic #vcbuzz https://t.co/FwkdsWjI2d
Bearing in mind that you can be flexible and turn that message into a quiz, meme, 1-minute promo video or a GIF, your imagination is your limit. Once the system is in place it becomes easy.
The key here is to not reinvent the wheel. Take the content from the original post or video or podcast episode. Turn those snippets into lovely pieces of content.
A3e How and Why Turn Your Blog Post into a Video and SlideShare Presentation by Julie @NewHorizons123 – she has done a lot of my posts for me. https://t.co/nbdxfAqvHJ
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
All I do is proof them after she turns my content into #video #SlideShare #vcbuzz
Q4 With so much going on, how to keep the process organized and monitor your progress?
Start with one piece of content and create a campaign around it and use tracking software to monitor everything. Yes, it can become impossible if you decide to do 10 campaigns at once unless you have a VA.
Yes, it almost always possible to branch out when we have a foundation asset. Any blog post can become a video, for example! #vcbuzz https://t.co/Wln2I6ePTc
— Jessy Troy (@jessytroy) September 1, 2020
Starting small will helping you to systemise the process and see what works for your audience initially. Once you find something that works then ramp that up into 5 original content pieces.
A4 I have to admit I haven’t been repurposing content in a systematic way.
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
What happens is I come across a great video or @NowSourcing has a new infographic that is relevant to existing content.
So I update the content, add the new media, and republish it w/ new date. #vcbuzz https://t.co/2i69MdyXgf
Of course, there are several tools that you can use to help this process. One of my favourites is Missinglettr.
If you decide to repurpose 100 blog posts then it is no longer small little tasks. I do offer a service for clients who don’t want to work with VAs as well.
Q4b If I were going to be systematic about updating old content, I would use a Trello board.
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
And start with research on what content gets them ost traffic or used to get the most traffic and it is tailing off.
Then prioritize further improving my BEST content. #VCbuzz https://t.co/2i69MdyXgf
Content repurposing has to be systematic for a minimum of 90 days for you to see results. I currently have over 40 campaigns running at different stages
Q5 What are your favorite digital marketing tools?
Well, for now I use Missinglettr, Planoly, Tailwind, CartFlow, Asana, Airtable, Hootsuite, HurryTimer, Elementor and Agorapulse.
Oh my gosh…just started using @Agorapulse and I think I’m in love ? and also surprised with the capabilities!! Still learning… #vcbuzz
— Sue-Ann Bubacz (@SueAnnBubacz) September 1, 2020
As you can imagine it takes a bit of planning by using Hootsuite + Agorapulse for social listening (you don’t need Agorapulse, the free version of Hootsuite is fine).
Missinglettr helps me create a baseline of content over 365 days and for Instagram and IG Story I reuse existing content to create carousel posts thanks to Planoly.
A5 My favorite tools relevant to repurposing content are @Trello @Canva and Julie @NewHorizons123 knows a lot about many different video and image creation tools, databases, etc.
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) September 1, 2020
She has reviewed a lot of them on her site and knows more about them than I do. #vcbuzz
Also remember to create lead magnets and funnels to captured those interested parties using Canva to create lead magnets and CartFlows to create sales funnels.
A5 @renderforestcom to create videos (put your script, it will turn into a video!); @VismeApp and @Venngage to create infographics (both hosted our chat some time ago!) #vcbuzz
— Ann Smarty (@seosmarty) September 1, 2020
#vcbuzz The repurposing content topic is one of the most fun in digital marketing and offers so many creative and valuable possibilities for businesses and audiences alike.
— Sue-Ann Bubacz (@SueAnnBubacz) September 1, 2020
Yes content repurposing is indeed a lot of fun because you already have the content and all that needs to happen is to change it into something fun.
