Is it really a battle @kayak360? I don’t like war metaphors. I think content creation is a breeze. Popularization is rather teaching #vcbuzz

the FP article was amazing coverage of overcoming my battle with stage IV cancer to launch KAYAK #vcbuzz

Questions we discussed
Q1 How did you become a digital marketer? What’s your career path?
Education: Printing/Business/Psychology I developed a dislike of interruptive ads after having created them for more than 2 decades.
Launched Kayak to market via quality content/engagement after that cancer battle. #motivated #cancersurvivor
Do you still sell ads now @kayak360? Or do you only optimize for organic reach? #vcbuzz
— Tadeusz Szewczyk (@onreact_com) November 22, 2016
@onreact_com I do, but as part of an inbound campaign typically…. and primarily social ads. #vcbuzz
— Randy Milanovic (@kayak360) November 22, 2016
@kayak360 Primarily Facebook? Or do you run Twitter, Pinterest or LinkedIn or others? #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
@GrowMap FB ads are best performers by far #vcbuzz
— Randy Milanovic (@kayak360) November 22, 2016
@kayak360, we all HATE ads but some of us make a living at placing them. How do you work around “the ads” factor? #vcbuzz
— Janette Speyer (@websuccess) November 22, 2016
@vcbuzz A1 I’ve been employing appeal to authority content lately where I reach out to influencers who have a strong following… #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
Q2 How has content marketing changed over time? Are there current trends that you feel excited about?
I don’t know if it has changed so much as that I’ve grown.
In the early days, I was less selective/focussed. AI shows promise but it has a long, long way to go. Presently, AI applications on social essentially feed you more of what you already ate. Tough to grow that way. #stimulatebrain
I’ve joined several private groups in Facebook and Google+. It’s in these rooms that the real relationship-building happens
I LOVE GROUPS #vcbuzz
— Randy Milanovic (@kayak360) November 22, 2016
Peeps on G+ wrote the book: Disruption: How Successful People Use Social Media for Business.
@kayak360 Would you like to share any particular groups you recommend we become active in? #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
Call me crazy, but #cloudwars in Gplus is a lot of fun. Find common interests.
I wrote about the Google Plus groups I felt were most beneficial in https://t.co/QiPjJmcocJ #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
@kayak360 Do you think Google+ is still useful for content promotion (outside of IM/SEO industry content)? #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
GooglePlus is my fav platform. Not because I’m a geek, but because I find people connect on shared interests (aka @seosmarty)
@vcbuzz A2 I usually ask them a question regarding a certain topic that relates to client but not competes with product…. #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
Q3 You have written a book titled “Improve your Website’s Search Findability“. What are your favorite tips on making your content findable?
Easily my best, most useful book.
Make content easy. Give give give. Write and design it to allow people to scan and understand without having to break a sweat.
@kayak360 Your book talks about #SEO dying. How do large sites nofollowing all their content as HuffPo just did affect us all? #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
It’s not about follows for me, its about connections – be part of the web and people will find you. Too big to fail ?
Treat keywords like hot sauce.
@kayak360 Yes, but suddenly so many formerly dofollow links to millions of sites go nofollow. How does that impact search and DA? #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
While I value links that follow, I’m looking for all links. It’s branding, connections and SEO all together.
@kayak360 Yes it is Randy – Great Point! #vcbuzz
— Debi Norton (@BRAVOMedia1) November 22, 2016
Semantic search leaders suggest mentions are valued highly by search. less emphasis on juice, more on real connections.
@kayak360 It would be nice to see some research into how well semantic actually works vs what kind of links matter or don’t. #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
I think this is an excellent opportunity to loop in @davidamerland – his work on semantic search is awesome.
@kayak360 Yep @davidamerland was top of MY mind when I saw where this was going #vcbuzz
— Lori Sailiata (@LaraBrittWrites) November 22, 2016
@vcbuzz A3 I’m able to get expert information making content creation a breeze and most times the influencers will share or link #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
Q4 What’s the newest most successful content marketing tactic you have successfully started using?
Readers can smell #cannedtuna a mile away. Keep it real.
@vcbuzz Content Marketing Tactic – Appeal to the ideal targeted audience w/ content that converts. #vcbuzz
— Debi Norton (@BRAVOMedia1) November 22, 2016
Don’t post just “everything”. Specialize or categorize.
@vcbuzz A4 I tend to do this for chapters/societies online and then I email the webmaster of each chapter website… #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
Since we’re talking about links… here’s 15 Link Building Action Items.
@vcbuzz The key is finding a industry relevant niche that hasn’t been inundated with link requests yet. #vcbuzz
— Alicia Lawrence (@Alicia_Lw) November 22, 2016
@kayak360 Sorry, another question. How can a “boring” brand keep it real? Do you really want to talk to a can of soup? #vcbuzz
— Janette Speyer (@websuccess) November 22, 2016
Talk about other things, common interests, #craftbeer is one of my favs ?
@websuccess also talk about the people behind the brand or other users maybe #vcbuzz
— Phil Turner (@The5Currencies) November 22, 2016
A4. One of the best ways is to just post uplifting content and surprisely you will find your audience demographic #vcbuzz
— Cheval John (@chevd80) November 22, 2016
Q5 What are your favorite content marketing tools?
Favs: @hubspot @googleplus @facebook @instagram. In that order.
Connections in GooglePlus are responsible for opening up $$$$$$$$$$ of dollars in new business for Kayak. #dontoverlookit
A5 Fav Content Tools: @BuzzSumo @CoSchedule headline analyzer @MavSocial @vcbuzz @JustRetweet @StagedMagic #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
I subscribe to @moz but love @hrefs @positionly @semrush
@kayak360 I forgot @Grammarly – too many writers don’t proof their work and we all could know more about obscure grammar rules #vcbuzz
— Gail Gardner (@GrowMap) November 22, 2016
Ahrefs is an excellent tool… for a number of reasons. #vcbuzz
— Don Sturgill (@DonSturgill) November 22, 2016
@kayak360 I use all of those, they are great! #vcbuzz
— Janette Speyer (@websuccess) November 22, 2016
