Q1 How did you become a digital marketer? What’s your career path?

Education: Printing/Business/Psychology I developed a dislike of interruptive ads after having created them for more than 2 decades.

Launched Kayak to market via quality content/engagement after that cancer battle. #motivated #cancersurvivor

 

Q2 How has content marketing changed over time? Are there current trends that you feel excited about?

I don’t know if it has changed so much as that I’ve grown.

In the early days, I was less selective/focussed. AI shows promise but it has a long, long way to go. Presently, AI applications on social essentially feed you more of what you already ate. Tough to grow that way. #stimulatebrain

I’ve joined several private groups in Facebook and Google+. It’s in these rooms that the real relationship-building happens

Peeps on G+ wrote the book: Disruption: How Successful People Use Social Media for Business.

Call me crazy, but #cloudwars in Gplus is a lot of fun. Find common interests.

GooglePlus is my fav platform. Not because I’m a geek, but because I find people connect on shared interests (aka @seosmarty)

Q3 You have written a book titled “Improve your Website’s Search Findability“. What are your favorite tips on making your content findable?

Easily my best, most useful book.

Make content easy. Give give give. Write and design it to allow people to scan and understand without having to break a sweat.

It’s not about follows for me, its about connections – be part of the web and people will find you. Too big to fail 😉

Treat keywords like hot sauce.

While I value links that follow, I’m looking for all links. It’s branding, connections and SEO all together.

Semantic search leaders suggest mentions are valued highly by search. less emphasis on juice, more on real connections.

I think this is an excellent opportunity to loop in @davidamerland – his work on semantic search is awesome.

Q4 What’s the newest most successful content marketing tactic you have successfully started using?

Readers can smell #cannedtuna a mile away. Keep it real.

Don’t post just “everything”. Specialize or categorize.
